Educational programme with early music. Music from the time of the Limbourg Brothers. An event about this theme is held in Nijmegen during the weekend of 28 and 29 August, namely the Gebroeders van Limburg (Limbourg Brothers Festival).
Limbourg Brothers Paul, Herman and Johan were born around 1380 in Nijmegen. They could get work as miniaturists at the Burgundian courts of Philip the Bold and Jean de Berry.
The brothers made books of hours called ‘Les Belles Heures’ and ‘Les Très Riches Heures’ for Jean de Berry; the latter of which would become the most famous book of hours in western art history.
In this programme, you can hear early 15th-century music that might have been played at those courts, by musicians such as Gilles Binchois and Guillaume Dufay.
