Sun Electric
On February 27, 2026, Sun Electric — the legendary Berlin duo of Tom Thiel and Max Loderbauer — returns with *Episodes*. It is their first album of original material since the release of *Via Nostra* in 1998, more than 25 years ago. This hour features one of the two pre-released tracks from the new album.
Sun Electric is a Berlin duo that has been carving out its own corner of electronic music since 1990. While they initially emerged from the Frankfurt trance scene, they quickly evolved into something far more distinctive — masters of fluid, shape-shifting rhythms and shimmering melodic textures.
What sets them apart is their remarkable ability to create music that is genuinely joyful without ever becoming superficial. There is an intelligence and depth to their work that gives this brightness lasting meaning.
Tom Thiel and Max Loderbauer form the core of the project, occasionally joined by Thomas Fehlmann in a production role. Their influence ripples through techno, trance, ambient, and IDM — particularly through albums such as *Present* and *Via Nostra*, which remain quietly essential late-’90s records that never received the recognition they deserved.
They have also collaborated with visual artist Nick Philip, whose video for the track “Meccano” became the first ever played on MTV’s *Amp* series.
