MAX WOISKI AND HIS “LA CUBANA” ORCHESTRA
One of the names that made Dutch people discover South American music, was MAX WOISKI. He did much for the promotion of Surinames and South America music, during the war at a Jazz cafe, and later on at his night club “LA CUBANA” in Amsterdam. But his records were embraced the most.
Yet, since he left the Netherlands and since his passing, we didn’t hear much about the man. Luckily, there has been a new surge of interest in Surinamese music in general and the ‘old timers’ are rediscovered through CDs, DVDs and even an extensive biography. The life and records of Max Woiski are the focal point of this broadcast.
