Last year the CD box of Sandy Denny released with all her studio material, collected on 19 CDs. The British singer would have turned 65 on 6 January this year. All the more reason to bring Sandy Denny into the limelight once more.
This Folk It! is completely filled with "The Songs by Sandy Denny". Strange, special, beautiful and sneering covers of songs of the singer/songwriter. Celebrities like Nina Simone and Marianne Faithfull gave Denny’s work a try. But also Fish, Julie Covington, July Collins, Nana Mouskouri and 10.000 Maniacs. Ex colleagues, under which the group Fairport Convention and ex members Iain Matthews, Richard & Linda Thompson, Dave Swarbrick and Ashley Hutchings recorded work from her. In this folk world a song of Denny pops up regularly. She was also covered in the Netherlands and we found a at the very least strange Dutch execution of a Denny song. Just like in a former special about colleague Nick Drake, we will begin this episode with the leading lady herself. Who, for that matter, wasn’t adversed to other people’s goods.
