In this Folk Live, you will hear a recording of the live concerts Gabriel Yacoub gave on 17 and 18 January 2003 in the Theatre de Cornouaille in Quimper, Brittany.
The French singer songwriter focused fully on his solo career after the definitive break-up of his successful band Malicorne. He toured solo, but also in a trio with his loyal companion bassist/pianist/arranger Yannick Hardouin and Gilles Chabenat on hurdy-gurdy. The latter replaced violinist Vincent Leutreau or guitarist Nicolas Yvan Mongot. It was around the turn of the century that he recorded his most appealing albums. A lot of music from those albums, Quatre, Babel and Yacoub, was performed together with many guests in Quimper, together with a single Malicorne song. Colleagues Sylvie Berger and Ludo Vandeau made their appearance with their own songs. Former Malicorne member Brain Gulland, percussionist David Pouradier Duteil and uillean piper and low whistle player Ronan Le Bars musically complemented the aforementioned (former) trio members. After Je vois venir, Yacoub could be heard on many Flamish album as guest musician and only made one disappointing solo album De La Nature Des Choses. Yacoub was more and more interested in graphical and artistic design, but in recent years he still performed with the re-established Malicorne. It did not bring him any big successes. Yacoub developed health problems and passed away this year on 22 January at the age of 72 in his hometown Bourges. Je voir venir is our tribute to this important French singer-songwriter.
