Hard Bop Boulevard

The first two months of 1956 the brand-new sensation causing Miles Davis quintet was on tour on the West Coast. Before they went back to New York Jazz West-label invited bass player Paul Chambers (20) to make an album: A Jazz Delegation From The East. John Coltrane and drummer Philly Joe Jones from the Miles Davis band joined; Red Garland wasn’t on the grand piano but Kenny Drew who lived in Los Angeles at the time.
The combination Drew/Chambers/Jones provided one of the most inspired trios from the heyday of Hard Bop.
