Dutch Jazz on CD, compiled by Jan Verwey.

Theme: Cor, Fay, Angelo and Benjamin.

These four top musicians were chosen at random, nevertheless…
Cor Bakker has done many projects and has toured with artists who
are not involved with jazz, such as, for example Karin Bloemen. Yet Cor is
a jazz musician in heart and soul, witness his concerts with Louis van Dijk. This CD he recorded in Italy with his trio, and is done in good taste.

Fay Claassen is a phenomenon and an instrumentalist among jazz singers. Her improvisations are top-class. This CD, which was recorded in New York, was
produced by Bob Hagen, an authority on jazz, and a great admirer of Fay. The arrangements are by bass player Joris Teepe, who lives and works in New York.

The third CD I play tonight is that of trumpet player Angelo Verploegen. Beautiful interpretations of well-known standards on: “The Ballad Album”. Quiet music then.

Tonight’s last CD is of alto-saxophone player Benjamin Herman, who became known with his New Cool Collective, in small and large size. They toured all over the world.
A swinging record with bebop pieces.
