Dutch Jazz on CD, compiled by Jan Verwey.
Theme: Old and new CD albums.
Tonight, a mix of 2 new and 2 somewhat older productions. 3 instrumental and 1 CD with singing. Marius Beets is very famous as a bass player, composer and arranger in the Netherlands and outside. Finally, an album was released under his own name. Beside his brother on the piano, he invited several American musicians, of whom tenor Eric Alexander is most famous. Beets’ own compositions lead the tone. He has written songs about, as he frequently does, already existing pieces.
Yasan Hancilar is the only singer in this episode. A Dutchman who’s parents are from Turkey, who knows how to interpret his own pieces in an excellent way; with 3 veterans as accompanists, among whom pianist Coen Molenaar. An enjoyable newcomer, this Yasan Hancilar.
Guitarist Marzio Scholten already has several CDs to his credit. He is a good improvisor with a fine taste. Moreover, he has gathered great musicians around him, of whom Randal Corsen (piano) and Stefan Lievestro (bass) are most famous.
To conclude, the Eric Ineke JazzXpress. Again, this band has made a CD. This time with Tineke Postma as guest soloist. No soprano saxophone this time, for the simple reason that the CD is about ‘The Music of Charlie Parker’, and he played the alto saxophone, as we all know. Again, a pearl of a jazz CD. Rik Mol, who went over to the Metropole Orchestra, has been replaced by trumpet player Ian Cleaver. Of course, JazzXpress is inspiringly led by master drummer Eric Ineke.
