The tenor saxophone players Eddie ‘Lockjaw’ Davis (1922-1986) and Johnny Griffin (1928-2008). They battled out countless friendly ‘tenor battles’ and always with a spectacular result. Davis was more of a ‘bluesy honker’ and Griffin the virtuous bike rider. Studio recordings in quintet composition from 1960.
