Composer: Keith Jarrett

Saxophonist Charles Lloyd is a legend. The musician grew in Memphis in the forties, at that time the musical centre of American music. When he was twelve he already played with Blues legends like B.B. King, Howlin’ Wolf, Johnnie Ace, and Bobbie “Blue” Band.

When he moved to Los Angeles mid-fifties, he started his own band, and slowly developed his own unique sound. His post-Bop style came as a real bombshell. With his band, which included pianist Keith Jarrett and drummer Jack DeJohnette, he became the leader of the free jazz movement. Later on in his carrier he played with pianist Michel Petrucciani and in the nineties he recorded some sublime records with, among others, Jason Moran in his New Quartet for record label EMC, .
At the moment he is performing with The Marvels, with guitarist Bill Frisell, bass player Reuben Rogers, and drummer Eric Harland.
