With One O’Clock Jump (1937), the Basie band basically laid the foundation for Jump Jazz – the orchestra leader wasn’t called The Jump King without reason. Nineteen years later, the band was involved in the launch of Rock & Roll as the house band at the legendary Moondog Rock & Roll Parties organised by deejay Alan Freed.
