Kairos. A meditation to modern music.
Another world premiere in Kairos today: a work of the not very well-known composer G.K. Sjirra. Performed on an electric guitar by the poet, composer, inventor and guitar player Gustaaf Hortense Ledoux. In addition, music of Ólafur Björn Ólafsson , Kim Janssen, Luik, Lubomyr Melnyk, Tim Gray and many others.
This episode of Kairos is dedicated to Bert van den Berg, who passed away on 15 November 2014.
“Bert, do you have something for me?” “Winoew”, His left forefinger goes up, with his head slightly downwards and then quickly to the left, before he looks at me. Our standard greeting, when I enter ‘his’ music department at the General Bookstore in Amersfoort, the Netherlands. And Bert does have something for me, I can see it in the twinkling of his eyes. Starting the ritual by opening the cellophane with his Stanley knife. The anticipation. And moments later, we are quietly listening with tears in our eyes in a packed store. Afraid to look at each other. The others customers pretend not to notice. And then: “wasn’t that beautiful?”, and there is the twinkling again. We hardly know each other, and yet we are so closely bonded.
His pension is a great loss for Kairos. And I miss my ritual. I miss Bert. Still, there is a promise. Later in time, when he has adjusted to his new situation. He will be making his own programme. And we will be…..
On 15 November, Bert van den Berg suddenly passed away. I dedicate this programme to him. Full of music which wasn’t to his taste, but what he would undoubtedly appreciate. He had a truly big heart!Wino
