L’Esprit Baroque

A Sunday programme in the ‘baroque spirit’. Flow my tears: sad and melancholy English music from the early 17th century. Songs by Dowland, Blow and Purcell, but also a lot of lute music by Dowland and gamba music by Hume.

In this programme, you can listen to sad and melancholy English music from the early 17th century.
Particularly, musical art by composers like John Dowland and Henry Purcell. "Flow my tears" is also the title of one of John Dowland’s most famous songs.
The focus is also on English instrumental music for lute and viola da gamba.
Recordings from 1957 by the Deller Consort are special, with the first countertenor who would apply himself to early music in the 20th century: Alfred Deller (photo).
