The baroque spirit in all its musical shapes. Johann Heinrich Schmelzer (ca 1620/23 – 1680): born 400 years ago.

Schmelzer contributed greatly to the development and dissemination of the violin sonata and suite in the German-speaking world, just like his pupil Heinrich Ignaz Franz von Biber did.
