In Mambo today, the last episode of the 2-part series about the music group Conjunto Libre.
This music group has always been at the forefront of Latino music in New York City precisely because of its adherence to the roots of Cuban and Puerto Rican music. Not least because it did not shy away from experimenting.
Conjunto Libre definitely also has a jazz side, as can be clearly heard in the song ‘Little Flower’, that will be played during this hour. It is a composition by Freddie Hubbard, in which Steve Turré plays the ‘conchas’, enormous shells.
Every performance by Libre is infused with Puerto Rican music, for example with the ‘plena’, a form of music and dance that is an integral part of Puerto Rican life.
