King Sunny Adé (Sunday Adeniyi, born in 1946) is the most popular Juju-artist from Nigeria. He started in Moses Olaia’s Federal Rhythm Dandies (highlife),and formed his first band in 1967: The Green Spots. He started his own record label in 1974. In the 80’s he became very popular in Europe and the US with his band: King Sunny Adé and the African Beats. Island Records only released 3 LPs but he remained very popular in Nigeria. His output is huge: King Sunny Adé has released more that 100 albums, sometimes more than 3 per year. Noticeable is the American Pedal Steelguitar in his band. He is the first to introduce this instrument in the Juju music.
