Chief Ebenezer Obey (1942) is one of the biggest names in the Nigerian Juju.
Recordings of juju music exist that are from the early 30s. In the 50s Tunde Nightingale became the first juju star, after that I.K. Dairo came and from the 60s the two arch-enemies Ebenezer Obey and King Sunny Adé. They mixed highlife guitar with Yoruba-drums (in particular the talking drums) and made the sound more modern in the 60s. As a faithful Christen Ebenezer Obey added elements from church songs. King Sunny Adé has just like Ebenezer Obey recorded many albums: some years he released as many as six! A total of about 75 albums of Ebenezer Obey have been released.
