Metamorphoses

The Taranta of Tarantismo has its origin in the folklore of Salentino in the Pugni. It was said that the bite of the Tarantula spider was poisonous and in order to dance the poison out by means of excessive perspiration, they thought it would be a good idea to get into a trance while dancing, and continue to dance until you dropped.
People now know that such a bite is not poisonous, but the dance remained. Now, concerts and dancing competitions are held in the Salentino area in August every year.
