Missa etcetera

Western religious music from different centuries.

Two cantatas and three motets by Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach, who is the central focus of the Utrecht Early Music Festival 2022.

One of the composers who will be receiving special attention during the upcoming Early Music Festival Utrecht is Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach. His works include the Magnificat and the oratorio “Die Israeliten in der Wüste”. Two examples of sacred music – a genre Emanuel wasn’t particularly known for. However, as Musikdirektor in Hamburg, it was part of his job to compose music for the liturgy.
