Missa Etcetera

Religious music. During this hour we will listen to Christmas music by Alessandro Scarlatti, Arcangelo Corelli and Giovanni Giorgi, in which there are direct references to the birth of Jesus.

We begin with the Messa per il Santissimo Natale, which Alessandro Scarlatti composed in 1707, followed by Arcangelo Corelli’s Concerto Grosso Op. 6 No. 8, better known as the Christmas Concerto. The composer gave the work an expressive dedication: ‘Fatto per la Notte di Natale’, which translates as ‘made for Christmas Eve’. We end this programme with a Christmas Mass by Giovanni Giorgi, who was born in Venice at the end of the seventeenth century.
