Jazz drummer, composer and band leader Pierre Courbois is seen as one of the founders of Dutch and European jazz. He collaborated with numerous prominent musicians, including Willem Breuker, Eric Dolphy, Ben Webster, Gunter Hampel, Jan Akkerman, Bud Powell, Jean-Luc Ponty, Don Byas, Stan Getz, Mal Waldron, Polo de Haas and Gary Peacock. He has won several prizes among which are the Bird Award and the Boy Edgar prize. Meanwhile, Pierre Courbois has been on the stage for over 57 years and has written more than 200 compositions. In 2015/16, he celebrates his 75th birthday with an elaborate tour on Dutch stages. This tour will conclude on 5 or 6 November with a big festival centred around Pierre Courbois in Nijmegen.
