Gerard Kleijn studied jazz trumpet at the conservatories of Hilversum and Rotterdam. He studied in New York in 2004. He has performed at festivals and on concert stages throughout Europe, Syria, Mexico, Russia, Indonesia and the United States. At this moment he is, among other things, working on ‘Wild Man Conspiracy’. From 2007 – 2017 he was co-leader of the 12-piece Clazz Ensemble, with whom he played new compositions which were written specifically for the ensemble. In addition to his work as a trumpet player, he is a trumpet teacher, he runs workshops and he conducts big bands. He also was a guest teacher and/or big band conductor at the conservatories of Rotterdam, Enschede, Damascus and Mexico City. Gerard has made 12 CDs containing many of his own compositions, with arranged piano pieces by Erik Satie and using J.S. Bach’s music as his source of inspiration.
