Jan van Duikeren (Schiedam, 1975) studied at the Rotterdam Conservatory. In 1996, he won the Rotterdam Erasmus Jazz Prize for young talent.
In 1997, he joined Candy Dulfer’s Funky Stuff. Van Duikeren is now a much sought-after studio musician, soloist, arranger and composer. He has worked with artists such as Dave Stewart, Bob Brookmeyer, Paul Weller, Diana Ross, Dr Lonnie Smith and Dr John. He is probably best known as the trumpeter of Candy Dulfer, Di-rect, Jazzorchestra of the concert hall, the New Rotterdam Jazz Orchestra, and the New Cool Collective Big band. In 2011 he released the album ‘Fingerprints’; in 2012, Scribblin’ as soloist and composer with the Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw; in 2015, Dear John with his quartet JVD4 (with John Engels) and in 2021, Short Stories was released, a unique ballad album by the JVD4 with the Metropole Orkest Strings, Marcel Veenendaal and Tineke Postma. The album was recorded in the middle of the lockdown and was awarded no less than two Edisons this year. He also teaches the main subject of trumpet at Codarts conservatoire Rotterdam
