Guitar player Ray Crawford (1924-1997) started in the 50s with pianist Ahmad Jamal, and later performed with organist Jimmy Smith and clarinet player Tony Scott. In the early 60s he conducted his own sextet with trumpet player Johnny Coles and baritone saxophone player Cecil Payne.
