The year where the bridges in Moerdijk open again and in the US the first computer is created; the PvdA (Labour Party) is founded; the KLM (Royal Dutch Airlines) flies its first scheduled flight to the US; the Rotterdam city council approves the Basisplan voor de Wederopbouw van Rotterdam (Basic plan for the reconstruction of Rotterdam); in Paris the two-piece bathing suit is introduced: the bikini; Italy chooses to become a Republic; and Interpol is founded.
