An old LP cover dug out from the Concertzender archives. Luiz Bonfa.
The grey-green cover shows the married couple Luiz Bonfa and Maria Toledo in different frames. Bonfa with his guitar on his knee, defiantly looking into the camera. Maria half behind a tree with a dreamy gaze. The LP ‘Braziliana’ is meant for the international market because under the list of songs stands ‘and others’. At the back comments from musician and producer Bobby Scott from New York. The soundtrack of “Black orpheus” from 1959 gave international publicity to Caetano Veloso, Antonio Carlos Jobim and Luis Bonfa, and has put Bossa Nova en Samba on the world map. Luiz Bonfa composed the song “Manha de Carnaval” that is executed to this very day. Luiz Bonfa is except for a composer also a gifted guitarist. In his music he uses all the colours that complex Brazil has to offer. Just because of that he is viewed as mister ‘Brazil’ by Bobby Scot. The lovely spouse of Bonfa, Maria Toledo, can also be heard on the LP. She has the gift to create an intimate setting that makes you want to sit even closer to the speaker.
In addition we will play some instrumental songs of the CD ‘Solo in Rio 1959’ by Smithsonian Folkway Recordings.
