Uzbekistan: the art of the dotar.

The music of the dotar, a large lute with silk strings and a serious and majestic tone, admirably interpreted by three masters *.
The dotar is a musical instrument that originated in Persia and Turkestan. The name is derived from the Persian (do tar) two strings. The instrument contains two playable strings, and sometimes 14 or 15 resonant gut strings. The instrument is related to the lute and the tanbur. The neck can be up to a meter long. The dotar is used in folk music in the near East and Central Asia, but nowadays also in modern and folk music elsewhere, and is strummed with fingers or a plectrum.
