Music from Afghanistan by the group Shams.

Shams.

Featuring popular traditional songs from different regions of Afghanistan. The compositions are a tribute to Afghan musicians of the 20th century.
The title Fleurs d’exil originated from exile. The group Shams feels not only Afghan, but also born in France.

The instruments the group uses are:

* The rebab, a very old stringed instrument, originated in northern Afghanistan;
* The tablas being played come from Northern India and Afghanistan;
* The harmonium comes from India;
* The dholak, a two-membrane vessel, a traditional and popular Afghan instrument;
* The flute is made of bamboo without a key mechanism, similar to the bansuri flute from India;
* The saxophone is not common in Afghan music, it is used instead of the ghazal because it is less suitable for popular songs.

CD: Fleurs d ‘exil: Melodies et chants d’Afghanistan – Shams.
