Music from Europe and Asia by the Trio Meïkhâneh + Nostalgic Vietnam: charming songs, poems and prayers 1937-1954.
Meïkhâneh.
The trio combines folk music from Europe, Mongolia and Iran in a surprising way. In Persian, Meïkhâneh means: house of drunkenness. With vocals, banjo, flute, lute, throat singing, overtone singing, plucked instruments and percussion, the songs take the listener on an imaginative trip. The singing is in Mongolian, Persian, Portuguese, Greek, French and an imaginary language. The impressive throat singing and overtone singing and vibrating percussion are complemented by the cello and double bass. With the earthly and heavenly ‘songs from within, songs from without’, the trio Meïkhâneh appeals to both their own core within and a receptivity to the vast horizon outside.

Nostalgic Vietnam.
On the occasion of the Year of Vietnam in France, this album revives the choruses of Indochinese crooners from the ‘Roaring Twenties’ and other popular Vietnamese songs, the voices of these forgotten artists, who had the misfortune to live in a crucial period in Vietnamese history, between the colonial era and the war. This collection invites us to travel in the spirit of the times of yesteryear, going from popular songs with a peasant character or patriotic to “fashionable” titles, often inspired by the success of singing movie stars, such as Joséphine Baker and especially Tino Rossi.
