Music from India with : Panjabi MC | Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan | Trilok Gurtu | Hariprasad Chaurasia & Henri Tournier.

1- Panjabi MC.
Panjabi MC manages to do what champions of the Asian Underground have not been able to do: score a big hit. The album The Album, which you are about to listen to,  is full of Bollywood influences. Unflappable tablas, floating sitar parts and an MC shouting at the top of his lungs in Indian form the basic ingredients of this album. Although the focus is on the Asian Underground, Panjabi MC occasionally shows that it can handle common hip-hop fare.

2- Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan.
He was born in 1948 in Faisalabad, Pakistan. He became the best-known interpreter of qawwali music, music that is deeply rooted in Islamic Sufism. It is a tradition passed down from father to son and Nusrat’s family has been playing the music for more than six hundred years. In addition to his striking appearance (Khan weighed about 150 kilos), he stood out for his enormous reach and long lunges. Western listeners mainly discovered his music because it appeared on the soundtracks of various films. Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan died at the age of 48 after a cardiac arrest.2- Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan.

3- Trilok Gurtu.
He doesn’t care about musical styles and forms. In fact, this Indian percussionist has a crush on purists who desperately try to keep established types of music within a tightly controlled environment, which makes any form of adventure, discovery and development impossible. These three elements play a prominent role in Gurtu’s entire oeuvre, in which he strives for universal ‘world fusion’.
Cd. Massical – Trilok Gurtu. Tracks: 3 & 10.

4- Hariprasad Chaurasia & Henri Tournier.
Hariprasad Chaurasia is considered a master on the bansuri, the Indian bamboo flute. Initially, Chaurasia seemed set to become a professional wrestler just like his father. The flutist says he owes his endurance and blowing strength to the wrestling training in his youth. Chaurasia plays the classical music of North India, but also makes film music and collaborated on this album with the French flutist Henri Tournier.
