Turkey and the EU: Renaud García-Fons, Derya Türkan | Meral Polat, Frank Rosaly, Chris Doyle | Wouter Vandenabeele, produced by Cobie Ivens

I– Renaud García-Fons & Derya Türkan. (18:57 min)
French-Catalan double bassist Renaud García-Fons and Turkish kemenche player Derya Türkan met in 2006, but they always wanted to collaborate on an album. In 2014, they finally did it: Renaud García-Fons & Derya Türkan. On the album Silk Moon, you’ll hear their improvisations, a pleasant blend of Eastern and Southern European music with a touch of jazz. The unique instruments blend beautifully: the dark, melancholic sound of the three-string Turkish fiddle and the deep, full, rhythmic tone of the five-string double bass, both plucked and bowed. As the title, Silk Moon, suggests, the melancholic, silky sound of the strings creates an atmospheric backdrop for a summer evening in a Mediterranean country.

III– Wouter Vandenabeele. (18:58 min)
After a successful and poetic first album Chansons sans paroles (nominated for the Klara Music Awards 2007), violinist Wouter Vandenabeele now presents a sequel in which the Orient makes its entrance with dreamy music about travels and encounters, sometimes based on stories from central Anatolia, then again based on stories from the Waasland, evoked by the beautiful sounds of bass, doudouk, violin, saz and vocals… For this new musical chapter, Wouter has once again gathered wonderful musicians around him – Emre Gültekin (saz, baglama and vocals), Joris Vanvinckenroye (double bass) and Ertan Tekin (doudouk, zurna and mey) from Istanbul.
CD. Chansons pour la fin d’un jour – Wouter Vandenabeele.
