Jazz, blues and nostalgia. Storm and rain.
Very diverse versions of ‘Stormy Weather’ (1933, Harold Arlen/Ted Koehler). As well as the classic by Lena Horne, also a subdued arrangement by The Comedian Harmonists (‘Ohne Dich’) and a rabid wrong performance by Karl Schwedler’s nazi propaganda orchestra. Further nice renditions by Kay Starr with the Capitol International Jazzmen (including Coleman Hawkins and Nat ‘King’ Cole), virtuoso harmonica Larry Adler, composer Harold Arlen himself, piano player Art Tatum, jazz trumpet player Billy Butterfield, ‘Sweet Mama Stringbean’ Ethel Waters and a completely deviant sun-drenched version by Master’s Hawaiians. In short, nostalgia in due form for the fringes of winter.
