Composers: Arnold Schoenberg | Charles Ives | Glenn Gould | Henk Badings | Leos Janácek | Reinbert de Leeuw
Episode 3, paper print?
Thea Derks follows the music track of Reinbert de Leeuw by her biography of Reinbert de Leeuw, which was published in March 2014; Human or Melody. The pianist, composer and conductor played an important role for the Dutch music and still takes a prominent place in the Dutch music.
In the third episode, we stand still in the fifties, when De Leeuw graduated from the Barlaeus Gymnasium and after a failed linguistic study, starts with a study piano at the Music Lyceum in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
According to the communis opinion, the Netherlands was sealed with paper print in the fifties of the last century, but this image is largely adjusted in the biography. Gaudeamus Music week (1945); The Holland Festival (1948); De Suite (1951) and the Contactorgaan Elektronic Music (1956) all stood up for new music. The Russian-Dutch violist/conductor Elie Poslavsky was also much into avant-garde with his Hague Ensemble for New Music, since 1956.
