Panorama de Leeuw XVI, Rondom series (2).
The Rondom Kwartet was formed thanks to a performance of the ‘Quatuor pour la fin du temps‘ by Olivier Messiaen in the Rondom series, with Reinbert de Leeuw at the piano, Vera Beths on the violin, Anner Bijlsma on the cello, and George Pieterson on the clarinet. The Messiaen quartet became their favourite piece which they also put on record in 1980. This is still considered as a standard. But the Rondom Kwartet also presents a rich variety of other composers, from Schönberg to Stravinsky, from Darius Milhaud to Peter Schat and from Paul Hindemith to George Antheil.
Today the complete performance of ‘Canto general’ by Peter Schat, a protest cycle on a text by Pablo Neruda about the murder of president Salvador Allende in 1973. Furthermore own recordings by the Concertzender with works by Milhaud and Hindemith.
