CCRadio Part 3. Sublamp & Idle Sunder. CC-radio dives into the world of net labels and Creative Commons licensed music. A special world, full of passionate musicians and devotees.
Sublamp, or Ryan Connor, got in quickly. Even from the start of Creative Commons in 2001 Ryan released music on the American label Pehr. Three albums in total until he started his own net label in 2007. This net label slowly developed with several artists but unfortunately it didn’t survive the ravages of time. Next to his own net label his music has also been released on SEM, Friendly Virus and several digital labels. Unfortunately a lot is not for sale any more but on Ryan’s own Tumblr page almost all albums are still digitally available.
Ryan’s parents, both scientists, lived in several national parks in the United States. It is where his early fascination for nature and science stems from. His music originates in guitars and several effects. His sources of inspiration are primarily Tim Hecker en Fennesz.
Unfortunately there is not so much to tell about Idle Sunder. This Ukrainian band prefers to stay in anonymity. Still they have found their way to the Belgian net label Entity where they released six albums. The connections with Belgium are still great given their performances in Brussels in 2011. Meanwhile they release their music via Bandcamp, under their own management. Especially for the Concertzender the members of Idle Sunder have put the chosen tracks and still to be released material in a mix of half an hour.
