Behind the beautiful forevers: Life, Death and Hope in a Mumbai Undercity by Katherine Boo.

Katherine Boo: an American investigative journalist who won the Pulitzer Price for Journalism. This is her first book: Behind the beautiful forevers: Life, Death and Hope in a Mumbai Undercity. The ‘beautiful forevers’ refer to the beautiful bill boards at the airport of Mumbai. A few things happen near the Hyatt Hotel. It is a book from 2012 on Annawadi, a slum in Mumbai India, where children and their families make their livings by selling rubbish.
We follow the adventures of the teenagers Abdul, Sunil and Rahul, they are among the people who search for rubbish. Sunil and Rahul collect the rubbish, empty water bottles, cans, crumpled cigarette packets. They fish for rubbish in the sewers. At the end of the day, they bring it to Abdul who sorts it out, gives money to the boys and then resells it to small recycling businesses. Katherine Boo sees the chance to carry you away in this book, which is very appealing because of the personal stories of Abdul and Sunil.
