Musical Romanticism, explored by Pieter de Oude.
Grieg’s piano concerto in A minor, concerto overture In Autumn, and Lyric Pieces.
Tonight’s episode is dedicated to Grieg. Of course, we’ll feature the magnificent piano concerto. The concerto is performed by the Russian pianist Lidya Zilberstein, and she is accompanied by Gothenburg’s Symphony Orchestra, and the conductor is Neeme Järvi. With this piece, the young and newlywed Grieg gained fame in his country and abroad. Many great pianists took the piece with them on tour, which, in the ’70s and ’80s of the 19th century, meant all over the world. We’ll also listen to the concert overture In Autumn, which Grieg completed while on holiday in Rome, and we’ll listen to four parts from the Lyric Pieces.
