Musical Romanticism, explored by Pieter de Oude.
Music by Carl Maria von Weber: two symphonies and the bassoon concerto.
The latter is one of the very few romantic solo pieces for the wooden wind instrument. For its performers, it is a highlight of the repertoire. In addition, you will be listening to the much underplayed symphonies by the great master of early Romanticism. He wrote them in quick succession in 1808, at the age of 22. Both works have a classical structure in four movements in the well-known order fast-slow-menuet-fast, although at times the romanticism is hinted at. Weber knew how to google themes and he uses the specific sound of the different solo instruments in the orchestra.
