During his lifetime, Johannes Brahms was held in high esteem in Vienna and far beyond. He literally could not leave his house without being addressed and pointed at. He tried to be as inconspicuous as possible when he went to his local pub to play cards with his friends in a private room. In the mornings and evenings, he composed the most fantastic scores, which were eagerly awaited by many in Europe – like his string quintets Op. 88 and Op. 111. Late works, in which Brahms truly pulls out all the stops to showcase his talent as a composer.
