An hour full of songs by Robert Schumann on Radio Romantica. The fantastic English tenor Ian Bostridge sings, accompanied by the experienced song accompanist Julius Drake. At the heart of the recital is, of course, the cycle Dichterliebe, exploring themes of heartbreak and unrequited emotions.
Before that, the duo performs the Liederkreis op.24, in which Schumann deals a bit with his stubborn future father-in-law. Once again, the complicated mind of the composer and the drama of his heavy struggles with life are revealed. Finally, two separate songs will be heard to conclude the program.
