Music from the 15th and 16th century. In this programme we hear music of Andrea Gabrieli, one of the major composers in 16th-century Venice.
From 1566 until his death in 1585, Andrea Gabrieli held the position of organist in St. Mark’s Basilica. His oeuvre consists of spiritual and profane vocal music, works for instrumental ensembles, as well as music for claviers.
We hear examples of each of these genres.
