New Orleans as chosen residence.

Singer and cellist Leyla McCalla was born in New York. Her parents were Haitian immigrants. She grew up in New Jersey and lived for a few years in Ghana, but eventually found her place of residence in New Orleans. At first, she made a living as a street musician. With a place at the successful Carolina Chocolate Drops she became nationally and internationally well-known. Two years ago she made a debut with the CD Vari-Colored Songs, a tribute to the black American poet Langston Hughes. At the end of this month her second album A Day for the Hunter, A Day for the Prey will be released.
