Slipped Through The Net

wed 31 may 2017 21:00 hour

Special crossover music, chosen by Ton Maas.

Gong Linna and the emancipation of Chinese tradition.

No country in the world broke this ruthlessly with its own traditions like China during the Cultural Revolution, causing an aesthetic erosion and a surplus of kitsch – a term apparently unknown in Chinese as it is found everywhere. Singer Gong Linna was a celebrated pop singer, but became obsessed with authenic Chinese traditions, partly through her marriage to ethno-musicologist and composer Robert Zollitsch. Together, they travel the country, trying to find the smallest hints of it. In this episode of Slipped Through the Net we play two different projects: one with traditional Chinese instruments and one with a Western string quartet.
