Koerner, Ray & Glover – white country blues.
Blues singer and guitarist Dave Ray, whom we dedicated an entire episode to last month, was part of trio Koerner, Ray & Glover in the 60s. They were three young, white students from Minneapolis who were captivated by the country blues from the deep South of the USA. Their music was not without controversy (with accusations of imitating ‘toothless black musicians’), but their debut album eventually gained cult status and was revealed to be among David Bowie’s 25 most cherished albums.
