DJ Socrates: "I had my first DJ experience in a pub in Glasgow. I worked in the kitchen of Mungo’s Hifi Soundsystem: a reggae collective which had their weekly evening "Dub’n Grub." Cooking, a joint in the kitchen and taking turns on playing the DJ. I preferred playing early reggae of the 1960s. Ever since, this has remained a favourite ingredient in my sets and over the years I collected reggae from every corner of the world. A universal, musical language which you will find in almost every country. This mix represents reggae at its best, as far as I can tell: hopeful, warm, rebellious, full of melody and sexy."

DJ Socrates has specialized in creating a warm and sparkling atmosphere. Friskily moving between the familiar and the adventurous, Socrates knows how to connect music of different countries. He brews his sets with a jazzy approach and a bucket of sunshine. Lively and strong club sounds may pop up but the music roots and inspiration are what it is about.
Socrates plays for Red Light Radio, venues like Tivoli in Utrecht, Het Paard in The Hague, Paradiso & Roest in Amsterdam and annual festivals like Oerol and into the Great Wide Open.
