The bumpy relationship between Beethoven and Haydn
Beethoven played as a sixteen-year-old at the premiere in Bonn as a violist. He played Haydn’s religious smash hit ‘Die Sieben letzten Worte’. It’s a strong composition, and Haydn made the most of it. Today, we’ll hear the oratorio version. We’ll also listen to compositions by the very young Beethoven, who was a fulltime court musician at the age of thirteen.
