A new series on tango music themed Tangos Despreciados, or “Underrated Tangos”. Episode 2: Roberto Firpo.
This second episode of Tangos Despreciados is dedicated to the orchestra of Roberto Firpo (1884-1969). In the days of the Guardia Vieja (the “old guard”, the music from before 1925) Firpo had already recorded many songs. The other half of his recordings are from after that time, and much of it is performed by his quartet. Less well known, but considerably more beautiful, are his orchestral works.
