Episode 11 of “Tangos Despreciados,” a tango program by Chris Zaal and Richard Frisart about underrated tango songs and tango orchestras. This time it’s about the orchestra of Francini-Pontier.
Enrique Francini and Armando Pontier both played in the legendary star orchestra of Miguel Caló. In 1945 they started their own orchestra that existed for ten years: Orquesta Francini-Pontier. The music they recorded was beautiful: virtuosic and dramatic, but they never really made good dance music.
