American pianist Cecil Taylor (1933) was an odd one out in the world of jazz for many years. He was influenced by both the European music and dance traditions as he was by the black popular music. Still, his music would be synonymous to “anti swing” for years, as many jazz enthusiasts called it. Now he is seen as one of the most important innovators in the world of improvised music. This hour features his earliest works, from 1956 to 1961.
