This collection shows the powerful influence of the Blues on musicians from all over the world. During the course of the album we will meet a Catalan Blues mama, a Mandarin speaking blues poet/motorcyclist and a Mauritanian who is called "the blues man of the desert" by his fans. World Saxophone Quartet.
This is an unusual recording for the WorldSaxophone Quartet, which is known as an a capella saxophone band. For this CD the band was enlarged, to make a tribute to South-Africa, through the contribution of different rhythm sections, percussionists, and a vocal ensemble. The music, which was composed by saxophonist David Murray, is jubilant and festive. Especially the singers and percussionists add a lot of atmosphere, despite the fact that this CD was recorded during the dark days of the Apartheid in South-Africa. Lobi Traoré & Joep Pelt.
When he was a teenager Amsterdam singer-songwriter Joep Pelt went to Mississippi to learn from the old blues legends. During his time there Joep learned the typical delta blues guitar style. He fell hopelessly in love with blues and decided to become a professional musician and to dig deeper into the music. What followed were musical explorations in various countries, including Mali, where Joep got guitar lessons from Ali Farka Touré and recorded the album I Yougoba, with Bambara Bluesman Lobi Traoré.
